| Sierra Gold celebrated our 10th anniversary on Saturday September 24, 2005. We had a sell-out crowd. Former members came from Sparks, Sacramento, Phoenix, Tucson, Texas, and the surrounding Auburn area. | ||
| The very first
meeting of the group now known as Sierra Gold Chorus was September 13, 1993.
Fifteen women attended. Sharon Hardie was voted in as director on
September 28, 1993. We auditioned on October 24, 1994 with 31 members.
Pat McCandless was Regent at that time and Sharon Hohmann was Membership
Development Representative. Our Charter Show was held at the Placer
High School Cafeteria on November 18, 1995. Our first Management Team was: (and we were the very first "Management Team" in the Region) Team Coordinator:
Vicki Reedy Over the past ten years we have been very busy. We have competed at our regional competition 9 out of our 10 years. We've placed: 1st small chorus in 1999, 2nd small chorus in 1998 and most improved by 100 points , 3rd small chorus, Most improved chorus (1998), and also placed last with scores of: B-, C+, C, and C-. We won a "Second Place International Membership Retention" award one of the years for loosing only one member in that fiscal year. The two years prior to that Sweet Adelines International was not doing special membership awards, but we had maintained 100% of our members in that two year period. As of September 2005, we have presented eight shows. All but one were Christmas shows. We've opened our Christmas Show Participation to the women of our community most of those years. We've had as many as 11 community women on our risers as part of our Christmas Shows and Holiday Performances. Our very first performance was a Mother/Daughter Tea in Applegate, CA. Since then we have performed in Reno, Lodi, Oroville, Sacramento and it's surrounding communities, Roseville, Auburn, Grass Valley, Nevada City, Penn Valley, Truckee, Georgetown, Colfax, and Coloma. We keep "On The Road Again" in our repertoire since it is so appropriate to Sierra Gold. One of our most memorable performances was in Sacramento at the State Capitol in the Assembly Chambers. We were part of the inaugural ceremony for the swearing in of John Garamendi as California State Insurance Commissioner. We are proud to have been asked to be a part of that ceremony. Our most recent performance is also one dear to our hearts. We were asked to be a part of a luncheon honoring an Army Engineering Battalion that had served in Iraq. We've been asked to participate in the next luncheon honoring another group of Iraq returnees. In these past 12 years, we've had the privilege to open our arms and hearts to many women. We've also cried many tears when we've had to solemnly celebrate their lives. We've also had to learn to let go of those that have continued their Sweet Adeline lives outside our chorus. We stay in email touch with former members that have moved to Nevada, Oregon, Arizona, Colorado, Michigan, Pennsylvania and we have a member on permanent temporary duty with the Perot Company. She has temporarily lived in 5 states to date and joins us in Auburn when she is in town. We thank you all for being supportive as family, friends, avid barbershop listeners, and to all who have been members of Sierra Gold over the past 10 years. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. In April of 2005, the chorus was sadden to hear Sharon Hardie announce her retirement from directing. A search team was formed for a new director. After auditions, the chorus voted and chose Barb Tincher as our new director. Beginning November 1, 2005 through December 31, 2005 Sharon Hardie and Barb Tincher will be Co- Directors. On January 1, 2006 Barb Tincher will be Sierra Gold's Director.

Moving
forward... Barb comes to our chorus with a multitude of attributes. Some of the highlights of her time with Sweet Adelines are: Barb started singing with Sweet Adelines in 1979 in the far away state of Massachusetts. Since moving to California she has sung with Diablo Vista, Sacramento Valley and Voice of the Valley, and was the director of the Cycle City Chorus in Davis for eight years. Our chorus feels very fortunate to have her as our new director. |
